House Rules
Last updated: March 6, 2026
Keep it fun, keep it friendly.
SideBet is built for friendly wagers between people who know each other. These rules exist to keep things fair, fun, and drama-free. Think of them as the unwritten rules of betting among friends — except we wrote them down.
1How Bets Work
A bet on SideBet is a friendly wager between two people. One person creates a bet, the other accepts it. Once both sides agree, the bet is locked in.
- Create: Pick your challenge, set the stakes, and share the link
- Accept: The other person reviews and accepts the bet
- Settle: When the outcome is decided, the bet is settled — either automatically (for supported sports) or manually by the participants
2Fair Play
The golden rule: don't be shady. Both sides should clearly understand what the bet is about before accepting.
- Be clear about the terms — no gotcha bets
- Don't create bets you know the outcome of already
- Don't pressure people into accepting bets
- If there's a genuine dispute about the outcome, talk it out like adults
3Stakes & Settling Up
Stakes are whatever you and your friend agree on — a coffee, lunch, bragging rights, or cold hard cash. SideBet tracks the debt; we never handle money.
- Honor your bets — pay up when you lose
- SideBet tracks who owes who, but settling is between you and your friend
- Don't bet more than you're comfortable losing
- Non-monetary stakes (loser buys lunch, wears a silly hat) are encouraged
4Sports Bets & Auto-Settlement
For supported sports, SideBet can automatically settle bets based on official results. Here's what you need to know:
- Auto-settlement relies on third-party data — occasional delays or errors may occur
- If a match is postponed or cancelled, the bet may be voided
- Results are based on regulation time unless the bet specifies otherwise
- If you disagree with an auto-settled result, either party can raise a dispute
5Custom Bets
You can bet on basically anything — "Will it rain tomorrow?", "Who finishes the project first?", "Will Dave actually show up on time?"
- Custom bets are settled manually — both parties must agree on the outcome
- Write clear, unambiguous bet descriptions to avoid arguments
- Include a deadline or condition so the bet doesn't hang forever
- Keep it legal and keep it friendly
6Community Guidelines
SideBet is a place for friendly competition. To keep it that way:
- No hate speech, harassment, or threats — even over a lost bet
- No bets involving illegal activities
- No bets that could cause harm to people or property
- No spam or abuse of the platform
- Respect other users — win with grace, lose with dignity
7Crews
Crews are groups of friends who bet together. Crew admins can set their own additional rules, but these house rules always apply as a baseline.
- Crew leaderboards track wins, losses, and streaks
- Crew admins can remove members who violate rules
- Be a good crew member — nobody likes a sore loser (or a smug winner)
8What Happens If You Break the Rules
We reserve the right to take action against accounts that violate these rules, including:
- Warning the user
- Temporarily restricting account features
- Permanently suspending the account
- Removing offending content
Serious or repeated violations will result in permanent removal from the platform. Don't be that person.
